Perry Wood is a very special ancient woodland lying in Selling and Chilham parishes. It is designated as a Local Wildlife Site and is owned by Swale Borough Council, used mostly for wildlife conservation and quiet recreation. The views are stunning and panoramic giving a unique perspective on the landscape of this part of the Kent Downs AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

Wildlife

Mammals

There are many native mammals living in Perry Wood, including badgers, foxes, wood mice and even dormice!

Reptiles

Common lizards love to bask on the sunny banks of the slopes at Perry Wood, but has anyone seen an adder?

Trees

Perry Wood is a mixed woodland with many native broadleaved trees, veteran trees, sweet chestnut coppice and pine plantations.

Plants

There are areas of bluebells, wild daffodils, golden saxifrage and even heather in different pockets of Perry Wood.

Insects

Insects are very well recorded in Perry Wood. Notable examples are the green tiger beetle and hummingbird hawk moth.
